Родник в безжизненно-сухих песках, – 
Любой в усталой памяти хранит   
    Его желанный вид;
Вечерняя звезда на небесах –   
Изящный образ пламенной любви
Стремивших на неё глаза свои.

Как символ, этот памятный родник 
Напоминает мне мою любовь, – 
    Не расцвести ей вновь;
И образ вечности любви возник
В душе при созерцании звезды, –    
Как то святое место у воды.

Emblems
            
A Streamlet is a bright and beauteous creature
In some wide desert, where 'tis blest the more
      In way-worn Memory's lore;
The Star of Evening is a gracious feature
Instinct, as 'twere, with all the love that eyes
Have ever looked through, looking at the skies.

And hence One emblems in its beauteous being
The memory of a love that in my heart
        Flowed gratefully apart;
The Other to my spiritual seeing,
The perpetuity of that love's white grace
Yet, as a radiance, in some heavenly place.
