Would you think there is an ending
To this story and this telling
Full of realism in every grain?
In the midst of summer dreaming,
Shaking spears and bottles ringing
Set the Sun, and here we go again:

Brooklyn nighttime this occurred: running pretty late,
I was hitching, I was hiking, looking for a mate.
There, I met a story-teller sleepy like a hog.
Dreaming, he oinked up a story all about the dog:

"There lived a priest who had a dog whom he loved to drill.
When she ate the drilling meat, her he had to kill.
And to bury in the ground.
And to write the words profound:
"There lived a priest who had a dog... "
