The Ball Party 

When clear sounds softly quiver
And weeping is the teasing bow
I like to watch the ball show here
Still take up just a corner now.
 
To me, at this whirlwind delighted
And pleased with the twinkling candles,
The by-gone days appear brightened,
My soul with awesome feelings dangles.

O, it is utterly fantastic   
To feel my early years of mirth
While looking at enthusiastic
And joyous youthful couples’ whirls.

What do I want? A new appointment
Appearing eager to attend,
To move to somebody’s excitement
Is my soul learning beforehand?

Когда трепещут эти звуки
И дразнит ноющий смычок,
Слагая на коленях руки,
Сажусь в забытый уголок.

И, как зари румянец дальний
Иль дней былых немая речь,
Меня пленяет вихорь бальный
И шевелит мерцанье свеч.

О, как ничем не укротимо,
Уносит к юности былой
Вблизи порхающее мимо
Круженья пары молодой!

Чего хочу? Иль, может статься,
Бывалой жизнию дыша,
В чужой восторг переселяться
Заране учится душа?
