The bells did wake the kings

The bells did wake the kings In tombs
Who, lying in the dark,
Were legends, heroes of the past,
they earthly chains disdained.

Sarcophagi would crack and part,
The temples’ rocks apart,
The capitals of columns would
Abruptly crumple paths.

The golden goblets and the clocks
In chambers were ablaze
To light the brilliants and spray
The powder on the trails.

The kings would step on sparkling strings
In aisles of the domes.
Who dares say they had forgotten
The virtue while in tombs?

While kept in peace the hearts of those
Who served till the end of lives,
Thereafter myriads of hours -
To stand in mortal wars!
