Traveler Chekhov by Tomsk alcoholic

A two-meter bronze monument to Anton Pavlovich Chekhov was erected on August 20, 2004 in Tomsk on the embankment of the Tom River near the mouth of the Ushayka River.

The author of the monument is sculptor Leonty Usov, caster Maxim Petrov. The writer is depicted in a grotesque and caricatured way: in a coat, a ridiculous hat, lopsided glasses, barefoot with disproportionately large legs. The writer has an umbrella behind his back.

The inscription on the pedestal reads: "Anton Pavlovich in Tomsk through the eyes of a drunken peasant lying in a ditch and not reading Kashtanka."
