Alexandra Kryuchkova. About the author. In English

L. Ya. Reznik, “Alexandra Kryuchkova? Remember the name!”

“You can’t see faces face to face.
Big things are seen in the distance…”
S. A. Yesenin

The poet and writer Alexandra Kryuchkova is an unusual person, worthy of respect and attention of the general public. I have been following her work for a long time, since she started to post her texts on the Internet  in 2001, and the author has greatly grown up. Amazing prose has appeared, some poems are deleted, many poems are rewritten, because Alexandra is constantly working on the Word, being a vivid example of those who passed a thorny path to the Literary Olympus, but never became famous in their country for a banal reason — the lack of contacts and money. As for me, I like her works, they are non-standard, philosophically deep, metaphysical, but accessible to almost everyone. Of course, my article is just a drop in the ocean of information, however, sooner or later, «water dripping day by day wears the hardest rock away», it will play its role as well.

Initiator and coordinator of the joint project MGO SPR and International Guild of Writers «RUSSIA-GERMANY. New Faces of Modern Literature» 2012, as well as the project «RUSSIA-GREECE. The 21st century» within the framework of the Cross Year of Language and Culture RUSSIA-GREECE 2019—2020 [2, 26, 55, 139, 157, 223].

The works of Alexandra Kryuchkova have been partially translated into the following languages:

• English [2, 158, 159, 183–188, 192, 228, 229, 241, 244-247],
• Italian [2, 160, 241, 248],
• German [2, 157],
• Greek [241],
• Bulgarian [2, 100],
• Hungarian [2, 61, 62, 161].

Her poems in Russian were published abroad in magazines «The New Renaissance» [2, 162—164] and «Russian Style» [2, 156] in Germany, in the magazine and newspaper of the international project of MediaGroup «Intelligent» by Sergey Pashkov [2, 165, 166]. In 2011 the author’s collection of poems «Without mask» was published in Germany (Stella Verlag publishing house) [2, 55, 167].

She is also awarded with MGO SPR commemorative medals: «55 years of the MGO SPR» (2009), A. S. Griboyedov (2009), A.P. Chekhov (2009), M. Y. Lermontov (2011), «60 years of MGO SPR» (2014), Iv. A. Bunin (2019), «The Motherland calls» (2020) and others [2, 6, 223].

I agree with Margarita Palshina, the journalist who wrote in the article for the Planet News in April 2020,

«Larisa Kuzminskaya, President of the Public Foundation for the promotion of contemporary poetry „SVETOCH“, at the literary salon on February 22, 2020, in Moscow, presented the poet and writer Alexandra Kryuchkova to the general public as a living classic. Of course, a writer, even appreciated during his lifetime by numerous victories on the Literary Olympus, is brought in the list of classics by time itself. However, in modern literature there are exceptional personalities, whose light is already noticeable now, whose works are a level higher than those published not only on social networks and on free publication platforms, but also the works of venerable authors of reputable literary magazines, because their words are infinitely alive and touch to the core, such as the prose and poetry of Alexandra Kryuchkova…» [168, 210].

In 2022, Alexandra Kryuchkova was nominated for the NOBEL PRIZE AWARD IN LITERATURE 2023 by two persons: Eugeny V. Stepanov , doctor of philology, poet, CEO & President of the Union of Writers of the XXI Century, and Vladimir G. Boyarinov , poet, Honored worker of culture of Russia, CEO of the Moscow City Organization of the Union of Writers of Russia [205—208, 223—225, 232, 234].

No doubts, Alexandra Kryuchkova is one of the brightest phenomena in the literature of the beginning of the 21st century, which, unfortunately, only our descendants will be able to fully appreciate, as Sergei Yesenin said, «You cannot see a face to face. Big things are seen in the distance».

*****S. V. BERSENEV, “SERVING ANOTHER REALITY”

“We all come from childhood…”
Antoine de Saint-Exupery

Alexandra Kryuchkova is a poet and mystic writer, Honored Writer of the Moscow City Organization of the Union of Writers of Russia. In 2021, she twice became the winner of the competitions after A. de Saint-Exupery: “The Book of the XXI century” in the “Wings” nomination of the MGO SPR together with the NP “Literary Republic” and “Ocean, wind, sand and stars” of the Open Literary Club “Response”.

Alexandra’s path to the Literary Olympus was quite thorny, and the theme of her future literary work was set by fate itself. Already in childhood, after the death of her parents, Alexandra showed a genuine interest in the Subtle World and religion. After being baptized at the Orthodox Church of Unexpected Joy in Maryina Roshcha (1989), she studied at the parochial school of the Epiphany Cathedral in Yelokhovo (Moscow), sang in the children church choir during the service of the Patriarch of All Russia Alexey II. The Cathedral of Christ the Savior hadn’t been built yet, most of the holidays the Patriarch served in the Epiphany Cathedral, where he often talked with children from the church choir.
The years spent in the church contributed to the literary work of Kryuchkova – the book of poems “The Temple of my Heart” with a dedication to her mother, Patriarch Alexey II and poet Alexander Blok was handed over by the author with a dedicatory inscription to Archimandrite Evlogy (Ivanov), head of the Russian Monastery of St. Panteleimon on Athos in Greece, in August 2019.

The close connection with Orthodox childhood and late heartfelt love for Greek Athos is also reflected in the novel “Confession of a Ghost”, the central part of which is occupied by Athos stories, stories of local residents, lives and miracles of the Saints and their icons, recorded by the author during her trips to the village Ouranoupoli, located on the border with the Holy Mountain. The cover of the first edition of the novel, donated by the author to Athos, as well as to the local history museum of Ouranoupoli and the house-museum of the writer Joice Mary NanKivell Loch (one of the main characters of the novel), was the icon “The Ladder”, painted on Athos with the blessing especially for that book. The book got the following awards: “Life suffocates without a goal” after F. M. Dostoevsky, “Creator of the Worlds” after D. Andreev, “Russia-Greece. The 21st century”.

Kryuchkova’s books are also in the libraries of the Russian Patriarchal Metochion of St. Nicholas in Bari (Italy), the Valday Iversky Monastery (Russia), the Athos monasteries (Greece). Her poems are recited in the film “Holy Russia” by A. Kulyamin.

The mystical coloring of Alexandra’s literature is caused not only by a deep study of theosophy and the works of E. P. Blavatskaya, but also by a personal acquaintance with Nonna Khidiryan, the winner of the “Battle of extrasensory people” on TV channel TNT, as well as with R. A. Mansurova, a film about her and her practical seminars “Miracles of Healing” was broadcast on the First TV Channel of the Russian Federation on September 01, 2009. “The Book of Secret Knowledge”, the first and the main novel of the “Playing Another Reality” series, is based on this film and on a spiritual trip with R. A. Mansurova in China in June 2010. The novel went through more than 10 reprints in various editor houses, with the total run over 10,000 copies. The book got the following awards: “Alive Word” after E. P. Blavatskaya, “Magical Realism of the 21st century” after C. Castaneda and Georgy Gurdjieff, “The Book of the 21st century” in the nomination “The Path of Knowledge” after C. Castaneda, “The Best Book of the Year”, “Literary Olympus”.

Alexandra tends to collide magic, represented by the Forces of Darkness, with Orthodoxy, represented by the Forces of Light. In the thriller “The Island of Charon”, begun by the author in Ouranoupoli (Athos, Greece) and finished already in Moscow, the action takes place simultaneously on two islands: Ammouliani, which was once in the possession of the Athos monastery Vatopedi, and Camotes, a Philippine island of magicians. The book got the following awards: “The Book of the 21st century” in the nomination “Wings” after A. de Saint-Exupery, “Ocean, wind, sand and stars” 2021 after A. de Saint-Exupery, “Another Reality” after L. and D. Andreev, “Case No. 2021” after A. Hitchcock, “Running on the Waves” after A. S. Grin.

Forty lessons of magic in the novel “A Trap for a Thought-Form” are given by the author in the World of Thought-Forms, where the main characters live, and the lessons actually consist in doing Good and expressing Divine Love to people in the spirit of Orthodoxy. The book got the following awards: “Master” after M.A. Bulgakov, “Through the Looking Glass” after L. Carroll.

The title of the collection of short stories “Tales of Ghosts” (a reprint of the book “Do you believe in ghosts?”), which received positive assessments from critics who compared the works of Kryuchkova with Edgar Allan Poe (A. Karpenko, “Poetograd” No. 12 (113), 2014), speaks for itself. The book got the following awards: “The Shadow of a Bird” after Edgar A. Poe, “Case No.…” 2021 after A. Hitchcock, “Tales for Adults” after E. T. A. Hoffmann and H. Chr. Andersen, “Literary Olympus”.

In the interview to Eugeny Stepanov for the “Children of Ra” magazine No. 11 (73), 2010, Alexandra didn’t hide her experiments with Time and Space.
In response to the question about autobiographical nature of her prose, “Alice walks barefoot on broken glass and hot coals, enters the Temple of the Soul, listens to the Music of the Spheres, merges with the Sky. Is this book based on real events?” she gives an unequivocal answer, “When I was a child, one person told me, ‘Never write about what you have not gone through yourself’.”

One of the first editions of “The Book of Secret Knowledge”, as well as “A Scream to the Unanswered” and “The Moon Cat”, are illustrated by Alexandra with a series of her mystical paintings “The Girl and the Moon Cat”. The books “Marina. Anna. Alexandra”, “Ez a — Szerelem!” and the book of the Hungarian poet and translator A. Gaal “A note in a bottle, or Broken words” are illustrated with her pencil drawings.

Kryuchkova’s poems from the cycles “Voices from the Looking-Glass”, “The Stargazer”, “Shop of Dreams”, “A Lonely Witch”, “House of Cards”, “Songs of Ghosts”, included in the book “The Moon Cat”, are also mystical. The book got the award “We only dream about peace” after Alexander A. Blok.

And even the piercing love lyrics in the cycles “Nostalgia for Atlantis”, “Coffee-Fairy”, “Don’t give me to others” are saturated with deep philosophical reflections, filled with mystical symbols, premonitions, signs and aromas of Another Reality.

Many reviewers note the presence of the “Silver Age” tones in Kryuchkova’s work, and the author herself doesn’t deny such connection, having dedicated her books to A. Blok, M. Tsvetaeva and A. Akhmatova. So, in the novel “Guardian Angel” (the book got the awards: “The Wings” after O. Wilde, “Silver Angel” after F. Sagan and “Literary Olympus”), donated to the Yelabuga State Museum of M. I. Tsvetaeva and the House-Museum of M. I. Tsvetaeva in Moscow, the main character’s mysterious trip to Marina Tsvetaeva is described. A. Blok, M. Tsvetaeva and A. Akhmatova are key persons in the Library of the Universe, which confirms once again: it was no coincidence that Alexandra received the right to light the 11th Tsvetaeva’s bonfire in Yelabuga in 2013 and became the winner of the “Tsvetaeva’s bonfires” competition, awarded with the nameplated statuette “M. I. Tsvetaeva” and the medal decoration after M. I. Tsvetaeva (MGO SPR, NP “Literary Republic”, 2013 and 2020).

For the “Playing Another Reality” series, mystical and philosophical profound, including encyclopedic knowledge from various areas of the secret and the obvious, Alexandra Kryuchkova was recognized as the winner of the “Writer of the 21st century” competition in the nomination after D. Andreev (MGO SPR, NP “Literary Republic”, 2021), awarded two order decorations, “Service to Art” (NP “Literary Republic”, 2013) and “For Contribution to the Literature of Russia of the 21st century” (MGO SPR, 2020). I think Alexandra with her literary work really serves here, on the Earth, she serves to the Other Reality.

Many writers compared the author with D. Andreev and A. de Saint-Exupery, in particular, Vadim Shiltzyn (“The Little Prince’s Rose of the Universe”, a review of “The Island of Charon”, the newspaper “Poetograd” No. 4 (400), 2022), whose words can rightfully sum up this article and the work of Alexandra Kryuchkova in general.

“If it were possible to classify literature, then ‘The Island of Charon’ by Alexandra Kryuchkova would be quite logical to put on the same shelf with ‘The Little Prince’ by Antoine de Saint-Exupery. The reverent attitude to the miracle of being and the models of interconnections, built from internal causes and stretched throughout the entire Universe, look similar in these authors, despite the difference in their initial circumstances and diametrically opposite endings. Those critics who compare the prose of Alexandra Kryuchkova with Daniil Andreev are also right. The multitude of the worlds and parallel universes reflected in his ‘Rose of the World’ could as well include the constructions found in her novel ‘Confessions of a Ghost’ and in the story ‘The Island of Charon’. The power of logical dependencies, filigreed by Kryuchkova, makes these works no less plausible than the philosophical bestseller of the famous mystic. Alexandra Kryuchkova’s prose built an invisible bridge between two previously unconnected authors of the past. ‘The Little Prince’ of Exupery took care of the rose, and the universal phenomenon of Daniil Andreev also turned out to be a rose, but for him it was already the ‘Rose of the World’. Taking up the relay race of generations, Alexandra Kryuchkova invisibly and delicately takes care of the very same rose.”

***** V. G. SHILTZYN, “To have a look beyond the brink of Being”

Alexandra Kryuchkova is an extraordinary poet. Her pen is sharpened on the desire to penetrate into the mysteries of the Universe. There is no frivolous attitude, flirting, coquetry and other lightweight husks in her poems. With rare persistence, the author repeatedly turns to the eternal, mysterious symbols, evaluating the correlation of personality, history, spirituality and being; reflects herself and gives food for thought, posing questions that have not lost their sharpness over the centuries. Alexandra Kryuchkova’s poems are notable for their bareness of nerves, an alarming note that sounds through the vain cacophony of everyday life and warns of the real state of things, of the fragility of everything that exists.

However, poetic expression pervades the prose of Alexandra Kryuchkova as well. Each novel in the series “Playing Another Reality” is unique in its own way, like a fingerprint, as a combination of talent and hidden knowledge. The easiest thing is to compare her “Guardian Angel” and “The Book of Secret Knowledge”, which has already been reprinted ten times, with the works of Bernard Werber and Paulo Coelho. But Alexandra Kryuchkova deals with the questions of the transcendental reality with a methodical approach close to scientific, and her work in this field, as well as on the paradoxical properties of the poetic word, is somewhat comparable to the elements of a search in a special laboratory. For the books in the series, Alexandra Kryuchkova was awarded a diploma with the order decoration established by the Board of the Moscow City Organization of the Union of Writers of Russian on January 16, 2020, “For Contribution to Russian Literature in the 21st Century”.

Alexandra tries to look beyond the brink of Being, to look at where we come from in this world and where we disappear to. In the metaphysical process of the human soul condensation one finds order and obvious patterns. The predestined path of every mortal seems fatally finite, but no! — the author reveals the possibilities of the spirit in the most tragic circumstances. Thus, Kryuchkova’s novel “Confessions of a Ghost, or the Matrix of the Space of Time” is like a breath of fresh air in a stifling suffocating pseudo-historical and political atmosphere and is a megalith that reminds me of Daniel Andreev’s “The Rose of the World”.

The short novel “A Trap for a Thought-form” is another discovery. Variations on the ancient Greek myth about Pygmalion and the revived Galatea were born more than once in world literature. Bernard Shaw, Oscar Wilde, Alexei Tolstoy and Daniel Andreev have all shone in this field. However, the idea of embodiment of a character from the point of view of the literary hero himself in “The Trap” by Kryuchkova looks innovative. In front of the reader’s eyes, the character becomes an independent of the script personality. The brevity of the novel shows the author’s ability to achieve the maximum effect with a minimum of words, using stylistic possibilities in a peculiar way, so that the narrative is saturated with symbols, carrying an energy charge. The live emotion of the novel resonates with the feelings of the reader, creating intrigue!

Alexandra Kryuchkova, Honored Writer of the Moscow City Organization of the Union of Writers of Russia, affirms with her work the humanistic ideal, according to which every person is an artist at heart.

Communicating with the word, anyone can get what Joseph Brodsky said in his Nobel speech, “One is no longer able to refuse to repeat such experience and becomes addicted to the process, as one becomes addicted to drugs or alcohol. A person who is in such dependence on language, I believe, is called a poet.”
