What do we spend our lives on?
On petty quarrels,
On stupid words, empty conversations,
On the hustle and bustle of offenses, on malice - again and again.
What do we spend our lives on?
But we should spend it on love.

We burn our lives to the ground on something useless -
On tedious tasks, unnecessary worries,
To please society, we put on masks,
What do we spend our lives on?!
But we should spend it on caresses.

We scatter our lives on gloomy gloom,
On "image" and "prestige", unnecessary science,
On lies and boasting, on free service.
What do we spend our lives on?
But we should spend it on friendship.

We rush somewhere, achieving something.
We all search for something - but lose even more;
We accumulate - gold, rags, and silver.
What do we spend our lives on?
But we should spend it on good deeds.

We worry, shout, suffer over trifles;
With seriousness, we choose ridiculous things.
But no matter how much you guess - you'll choose the wrong one.
What do we spend our lives on?
But we should spend it on dreams.

We fear joy, fear believing in fairy tales,
Fear dreams, tenderness, and caresses;
We fear falling in love, so as not to suffer later,
What do we spend our lives on?!
But we should simply live!
