1. словене: Словене (др.-рус. и церк.-слав. «словъне») рассматриваются как часть древнерусской народности; исповедуют славянское язычество или православие. Само название подчёркивают их тесную связь с Богом Словом, которому единственному, Триединому, они могут возглашать славу.

2. Слово: «В начале было Слово, и Слово было у Бога, и Слово было Бог.» [Ин. 1:1–3] В православной вере центральное место занимает Иисус Христос, который рассматривается как Спаситель человечества и воплощённое Слово Божие.

Notes:

1. the Slovens: The Slovens (Old Russian and Church Slavonic «словъне») are considered part of the ancient Russian people; they profess either Slavic paganism or Orthodoxy. The name itself emphasizes their close connection with God the Word, to whom alone, God the Trinity, they can proclaim glory. Here: In the Russian language the Slovens and the Word are written and pronounced identically, which makes the original line in Russian a tautogram.

2. The Word: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” [John 1:1–3, KJV] In the Orthodox faith, the central place is occupied by Jesus Christ, who is considered the Saviour of mankind and the incarnated Word of God.
