The Dawn Борис Пастернак. Рассвет

You everything meant in my life.
Then came the war, the devastation,
The deathly battles, the bitter strife...
My Lord, I lost you like sensation!

For many years without Your sight
I heard one day the voice forgiving.
I read Your Testament all night,
As from the faint I came to living.

I want to be with people these
In their excitement that increases,
To bring the men to their knees,
To smash the things into the pieces.

Oh! I am running on my feet,
As though I’m looking downstairs
At beautiful and snowy street
First time and taken unawares.

It’s light and warm behind the glass
Of many windows up and down.
Tea parties... But few minutes pass ;
You wouldn’t recognize the town.

The blizzard knits a heavy net
From white and thickly falling snow,
And everybody wants to get
To heavy gates and see it though.

I know, I feel for their sake,
My heart in their world adorning,
I melt like fragile snowflake,
I frown darkly like the morning.

And now I have the nameless men,
Trees, children, homebodies’ valley…
By them I was defeated, when
That’s only victory I value.
