Konstantin Balmont And with help of a dream

Я мечтою ловил уходящие тени…
Konstantin Balmont
And with help of a dream

And with help of a dream did I use to catch shadows
The retiring shadows of the vanishing day,
I was climbing the spire and were twitching the stairs,
And were trembling the stairs beneath pace of my way.

And the higher I climbed, far more clear appeared,
Much more clear appeared delineations afar
And some sounds emerged,
Just emerged from the Sphere,
Of the Sphere of Earth and the infinite Sky.

And the higher I rose, the more dazzling did glimmer,
Did there glimmer the tops of the dozing hills,
And with leave-taking blaze, as if fondling the clouds,
As if caressing the clouds, bitter farewell gazed.

And aright beneath me came the night into own,
Did take over the night of the drowsing world,
But for me Sun did shine in its infinite glory,
Did the light of the day wear out its turn.

I did learn how to catch the retiring shadows,
The retiring shadows of the tarnishing day
And the higher I climbed,
The more sternly did tremble,
Far more sternly did tremble
Every step of the way.
