A Found Friend

On a grey street of the city vast,
I spotted a tiny ball of black,
A kitten, drenched, in the cold it shook,
Forgotten, frightened, a messy little pack.

As if woven from shadows deep,
Hungry, defenceless, so small,
My heart was torn, I could not keep
From taking him in, no thought at all.

In his tiny eyes, like peas aglow,
Suddenly joy began to bloom,
He sensed that on this dismal day,
Beneath the sound of rain’s gentle boom,

He found a friend, a shelter at last.
Years have flown, time has passed very fast.
Ten years now, side by side we dwell,
Together always, in harmony swell.

And once more the rain taps on the roof,
My fluffy one purrs with tender grace,
As if to say: 'I love you, my truth,
You’re my life; I love your embrace,

Believe me, I need nothing more.'
I set aside his cherished toy,
And in reply, with heart so pure,
I reply: 'You’re my joy, my dear little kittyboy.

Thank you, sweet friend, for that stormy day,
For letting me take you home, come what may.
Grateful am I, for you found your way,
Into my life, where forever you stay.'
