Innokentiy annenskiy I thought that
‘I thought that my heart was of stone…’
Иннокентий Анненский
‘Я думал что сердце из камня…’
I thought that my heart was of stone,
That vacuous it was and deceased:
Let forks of the flame always burning,
They’re nothing for heart, but release…
And just as it was no affliction,
And even if hurt, -
Just a bit,
But, nonetheless,
Fire extinction
Seemed proper decision,
Most fit.
But heart is immersed in a darkness,
The fire gets timid and weak,
And when flame eventually expires
I start suffocating of reek.
