African Childrern
Through palm trees whispering, 'Good day!'
As evening falls, the waves do swell,
In joyous chorus, they rise and yell.
With morning light, on wooden boat,
The fisherman begins his floating float.
Surrounded by nature's pristine grace,
Under baobab leaves, all find their place.
The sun beats down with fierce embrace,
Yet children smile, their spirits race.
Fetching water from the well,
Mending nets, casting their spell.
Laughter rings out, a child's delight,
The sound of a hoopoe in gentle flight.
Boys, done with toil, join in the fun,
Playing crocodile-hippos, beneath the sun.
Gathering pebbles from the sandy shore,
For Kudoda* games, they laugh and roar.
As Africa's heart beats through the day,
I share the simple lives in their play.
Though it seems humble, this life they lead,
In harmony with nature, they sow their seed.
Children of the sun and sea unite,
In joyous bond, their futures bright.

* Kudoda - an african game for children. There’s a few variations of this game, all which need at least three players to make it fun. In Kudoda, players sit in a circle around a wooden or metal bowl filled with 20 to 30 small stones or marbles. The first player picks up one of the stones and throws it up in the air. It’s all about quick fingers. Before it drops down, the player tries to pick up as many other stones in the bowl as he/she can. Once all players have had a chance, the stones are counted and the one who collects the most is the winner. Kudoda is most common in Zimbabwe, also played in Kenya and Tanzania.
