Всё люди, люди!.. тьма людей!..
Но присмотрись, голубчик, строго,
Меж ними искренних друзей
Найдёшь, голубчик, ты не много!
Я не хочу тем оскорбить
Святое чувство человека,
Что не способен он любить…
Он просто нравственный калека!
Он любит, любит… но кого?
Ты приглядись к нему поближе, —
Себя он любит — одного…
И вразуми его поди же:
Что создан он не для себя —
Его другое назначенье:
Он должен, каждого любя,
Нести с ним скорбь и удрученье;
Но это, кажется, мечта, —
Души бесплодное стремленье…
Не воплотится никогда
В людях великое ученье:
«Что выше нет любви такой
И больше нет такой услуги,
Как в жизни жертвовать собой
За своя ближния и други»

People and people!.. with no ends! ..
Look close, strictly at all and any,
Among them, the sincerest friends
Can be discovered not so many!
I do not want to be too bad
And hurt the holy sense of people,
That each man cannot love…, and that
Each man is just a moral cripple!
He loves, he loves... but who, you think?
Do look at him, closer at the main, —
He loves himself — his body, skin…
Do try to make him get it, saying:
A man was not for his sake done,—
But for fulfilling the other goal:
A man must, loving everyone,
Share all sorrows of another soul;
It seems to be the dreamy view,
The souly fruitless aspiration…
Will never really come true
In people the great education:
"That there's no greater love in strife,
And there’s no service, too grand and dear,
Than you can sacrifice your life
For sake of friends, people, who are near"
