к 210-й годовщине со дня рождения

Оценки будущные лепт благих деяний –
Причастных к ним – способны очень возрастать,
Когда быль может через толщу расстояний –
Со временем – примером ярким в нОви стать.

Вот иллюстрация тому – стезя служенья,
Как губернатора, Самаре, в коей он –
Грот Константин – зело впечатал след сажЕнный,
За что от жителей ему – земной поклон.

Канонам, Лютеру он следовал всецело:
Подвижник этот вдохновлял его в Пути;
В благоустройства буднях, начинаньях смелых
Свет духотворный помогал вперёд идти…

Однако нЕ был Грот суров и аскетичен,
Умел он добрым словом привязать людей
К себе, не будучи по нраву деспотичным,
Чтоб повести их за собой в вершЕньи дел…

Привил он книжную культуру горожанам,
Библиотеку областную основал:
И вехам многим подобает здесь волжанам
Ей-ей гордиться, раз их Грот облюбовал.

С тех пор расцвёл, как вешний сад, благоуханный,
Самарский край, что – близ от Волги, Жигулей;
В народов дружбе тот обрёл всю мощь дыханья.
Лет двести десять знаменуют юбилей.

Konstantin Grot: On the 210th Anniversary of His Birth

Appreciation for the harvest of good deeds
And those involved in them – it can increase
When a true story growing through the epochs
Becomes a bright example in the present.

An illustration of this was the path of service,
Which had been chosen by the head of our province –
Konstantin Grot, for his good deeds renowned,
For which our gratitude to him abounds.

He followed Martin Luther and his canons:
This ascetic inspired him on the Way.
Spiritual light diffused its shining rays
In all his beneficial undertakings.

But Governor Grot wasn’t stern and strict,
He knew how to speak the words of kindness
And lead the citizens in doing things
For the good of society  – valued,  timeless.

He founded a library in the region,
Developing  the culture of reading.
There were so many landmarks here  –  still famous,
That had for Grot their special meanings.

Since then, the Samara region – like a garden,
Has blossomed near Volga, – noble, enlightened,
Harmonious and strong in many spheres.
And glorious anniversary of Grot’s
Birth we celebrate: two hundred and ten years.
