Кокетка судит хладнокровно,
Татьяна любит не шутя
И предается безусловно
Любви, как милое дитя.

Не говорит она: отложим -
Любви мы цену тем умножим,
Вернее в сети заведем;
Сперва тщеславие кольнем

Надеждой, там недоуменьем
Измучим сердце, а потом
Ревнивым оживим огнем;
А то, скучая наслажденьем,
Невольник хитрый из оков
Всечасно вырваться готов.

Chapter III-XXV

The coquette judges cold and clear,
Tatiana loves in all earnest, sincere,
And yields to love without a doubt,
Like a sweet child, with joy throughout.

She doesn’t say: Let’s wait awhile -
For love’s true worth, we'll multiply.
We’ll led it into a trap to capture it and hold,
But first, we'll strike the vanity bold

By hope, then by confusion's sway,
We’ll torment the heart, and later, find a way
To revive it with the  flame of jealousy,
Or else, bored with the delight,
A cunning slave, from chains so tight,
Is always ready to break free.
