Pearl by Olga Velgus
under my watchful eye.
Here’s an improved version of the poem “The Pearl,” with the rhythm more carefully preserved:
**VERSE 1:**
Who am I that You would look at me?
How did You notice just a grain of sand?
Lost amidst the crowd, in the ocean deep,
I was wandering, weary, and unmanned.
**CHORUS:**
Can I believe in joy so true, so real?
You raised me from the depths, so small, so frail!
All the worthless silt, gently You made clean,
And You called me Your pearl, pure and pale.
**VERSE 2:**
If not for You, I’d live like the rest,
In hopeless darkness, blind in night.
How Your heaven’s light touched my soul within,
Giving life to dreams of eternal light.
**VERSE 3:**
There’s no credit I can take as mine,
I was shaped and formed by Your hand alone!
There’s no greater joy than to shine Your light,
In my heart, reflecting You alone.
Let me know if this version feels closer to the original rhythm you’re aiming for!
