A Mother s Lament

Oh, cruel fate, you've torn away
My precious son, my light of day.
Like a leaf plucked from a tree,
You've taken him from me.

No longer can I hold him tight,
Or hear his laughter, pure and bright.
'Bye-bye, my darling, close your eyes,'
I whisper now, with tear-filled cries.

My heart aches, a gaping void,
Where once my son's love had enjoyed.
I search for him in every place,
But find only sorrow's bitter trace.

Oh, cruel fate, why have you done
This to a mother, left her stunned?
My heart torn out, my life undone,
A mother's lament, forever spun.

My dear son, you're gone away,
And all is pain.
