Setting: The living room of Al’s apartment. The door is slightly open.

(N enters the apartment, looking a bit nervous. Al stands by the door, smiling.)

Al: (smiling) Hey, come on in. No need to take off your shoes. Make yourself at home. You know, I feel really lucky tonight — you’re totally my type — a perfect match.

N: (nervously) Really? I’m a bit surprised. I didn’t think you were interested at all.

Al: (chuckling) Seriously? I was checking you out all night. I’ve got a knack for people like you. I'm into those righteous idealists… Hold on, don’t tell me you’re religious? That would be something.

N: (hesitant) Yeah, I sometimes go to mass.

Al: (eyes widening) Holy crap! That makes things even more interesting. By the way, did you see Grace Cathedral on the way here? We could hit it up later. It’s really nice there… Wait, you said "mass"? Are you Catholic?

N: (anxiously) Listen, I’m starting to think coming here was a mistake. Maybe we shouldn’t... I’m not sure this is right.

Al: (reassuringly) Hey, it’s fine. Seriously. Let’s have a drink to loosen up a bit. You seem a bit on edge. Or is it just me?

N: (sighing) It’s just... I didn’t expect things to move this fast. I haven’t done this kind of thing before...

Al: (laughing) Wait, what? You’re kidding, right? This is San Francisco! How did you manage that? No worries, I’ll be your first. What’s the line? “I’ll be gentle”?

N: (nervously) Please, don’t joke around. I’m really nervous.

Al: (smiling) Alright, alright. We’ll start with something simple. We can save the more intense stuff for later.

N: (relieved) Okay. Can you pour me a drink?

Al: (playfully) Juice or milkshake?

N: (laughing) Are you serious?

Al: (grinning) Fine, fine, whiskey?

N: (smiling) Perfect. Thanks. You know, you’re… very nice. I really like you.

Al: (very seriously) Look, let’s cut out the romantic stuff. And don’t get any ideas about falling for me. This is just a fling.

(The scene darkens.)
