Глава I-LIII

Нашел он полон двор услуги;
К покойнику со всех сторон
Съезжались недруги и други,
Охотники до похорон.

Покойника похоронили.
Попы и гости ели, пили,
И после важно разошлись,
Как будто делом занялись.

Вот наш Онегин сельский житель,
Заводов, вод, лесов, земель
Хозяин полный, а досель
Порядка враг и расточитель,
И очень рад, что прежний путь
Переменил на что-нибудь.

Chapter I-LIII

He found the courtyard full of guests;
From every side, without request,
Both friend and foe had come with haste,
All eager for the funeral feast.

The corps now was laid to rest;
The priests and visitors did feast,
And then departed, proud and grand,
As if they'd done a noble stand.

Here's our Onegin, village dweller,
Of factories, of waters, woods, and ground,
A master full, who once was found
A foe to order, wasteful fellow.
And now he's glad his former way
He changed for something, come what may.
