Autumn Scents
A subtle fragrance lingers there,
Chilly winds with rain’s soft embrace,
Wrap round the world in wistful grace.
My garden blooms no longer bright,
The magic fades with the fading light,
Golden tops of pines wear crowns so fair,
A touch of colour - scarce lingered anywhere.
Upon the leaves a silver veil lies,
As birds take flight through sullen skies,
Yet this fleeting scene shall soon decay,
To the cold, grey days that steal away.
Today or tomorrow, perhaps distant days,
All that we cherish in time’s gentle haze,
As autumn’s essence begins to shed,
The warmth of summer, now gently fled.
As shadows lengthen and daylight wanes,
Nature whispers soft, in soft refrains,
With every leaf that falls to ground,
The heart of autumn’s song is found.
So here we stand, in twilight’s glow,
Remembering warmth from days long ago,
For in each breath of the crisp, cool air,
Lies autumn’s essence, forever there.
