An Owl and a Sage
An owl seeks wisdom, flies to the rhino sage's place.
'Oh wisest one, grant me your light,
How find the joy I've sought so long, so bright?'
'To light aspire, and darkness shall depart,
Believe my words, engrave them on your heart.
To choose the good, or yield to night's sway,
That, my friend, is the choice you must obey.'
The owl hooted, 'My moment has arrived!
You, my father, shall rule, your wisdom revived.
I thank you now, and fly to my nest,
With hope that ill-fortune shall not touch my crest.'
'When night returns, I'll take flight once more,
And leave behind this light, forevermore.'
The sage stood still, perplexed at her decree,
'Why fly from light to darkness, destiny?'
'Your choice I respect, though strange it may seem.'
He turned towards the sun, his thoughts in a dream.
'If I were that owl, which path would I take?
Embrace the light, or in darkness partake?
Or linger in indecision, my life's toll?'
He realized then, the choice is one's own soul.
For wisdom guides, but cannot dictate,
The path we tread, or where we elevate.
