Задохнулись канонады.
В мире – тишина.
На большой земле однажды
Кончилась война.

Как всходило солнце в гари

А в реке – меж берегами –
Кровь-вода текла.

Были чёрными берёзы,
Долгими – года.
Были выплаканы слёзы
Вдовьи навсегда.

Вот опять пронзает лето
Солнечная нить.
Только не забыть бы это!
Лишь бы не забыть!

Эта память – верьте, люди, —
Всей земле нужна.
Если мы войну забудем,

Peace reigns in the world.
As one day, the war had ended
On the land, great, old.

We'll live, we'll meet dawn and sunset,

Only we must not forget that!

How the sun got up, with fire fought,
And the darkness swirled.
In rivers flew blood-water –
Midst the banks, and growled.

When the birches turned black and dead,
The years had been long.
All the widows' tears had been shed
For all the life on.

Here again the summer is pierced
By a solar thread.
Only we wouldn't forget, in peace!
We wouldn't forget that!

Whole Earth – believe me, people, —
Needs this memory.
If we just forget the war, it'll
Come again with grief.
