The shepherd of my soul

The shepherd of my soul is my Lord,
in Him my heart is deeply satisfied.
To lose Him out of sight I can't afford, -
He is the One, who once for me had died.

He went for me through suffering and pain
and shed for me His precious holy blood.
I can't reject His offer with disdain, -
eternity is hidden in the bud.

He is the One, who opens the gate
and in green pastures He my soul feeds,
and never He is early or too late,
He cares in good timing in for my need.

He guides into safety, protecting,
and gives me rest beside waters still.
He is with heaven all my hopes connecting, -
all promises, I trust, He will fulfil.

With Him the darkest valley cannot scare,
He comforts with His staff and with His rod.
I know, I am safe in His care,
for He is no-one but Holy God.

In foggy days He my soul guides,
He knows always what for me is best.
With mercy, love, and peace my Lord provides, -
in Him alone is my life's zest.

May Satan prowl around like a lion, -
his business is to steal, to lie, and steal,
but if I am on Christ alone relying,
the devil cannot snatch me from God's will.

To save my soul Jesus Christ is able,
He is my King, my Teacher, and my Priest.
In front of enemies my Lord prepares the table, -
I'm looking forward to His greatest feast.

I'm sure, He can never disappoint,
He is the Truth, the Life, and the Way.
With oil, You, my Lord, my head anoint.
"Be blessed forever, oh my God!" I pray.

You fill my cup, and it overflows,
Your light makes my soul feeling well.
Yes, surely, with You, my spirit knows,
I will forever in Your house dwell.
