Reality sets in
"Reality sets in" or "reality settled in" are both valid and grammatically correct phrases in written English They are used to indicate that someone's hopes, dreams, or expectations have been dashed and replaced with a more sober, realistic perspective1. Alternatively, "set in" means "to begin to prevail; arrive"
