President Joe Biden has urged U.S. flags across the country to be flown at half-staff, commemorating the thousands of lives lost in the bombing of Pearl Harbor 82 years ago today. The event triggered America's involvement in the World War II.
December 7 is designated by Congress as National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, commemorating the 2,403 service members and civilians killed when 353 Imperial Japanese aircraft bombed U.S. Navy ships in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. A further 1,178 were wounded.
In a proclamation released on Wednesday, the president urged "all Federal agencies, interested organizations, groups, and individuals to fly the flag of the United States at half-staff."
