Going off the deep end

Going off the deep end is an informal idiom that means to give way to anger, emotion, or irrationality. It refers to the deep end of a swimming pool, where the diving board is located, and where it is dangerous to enter unless one can swim. It can also imply to yield to mental or emotional stress
