Love letter from Ruth Paine to Marina
My dearest Marina,
I am writing this letter to you in secret, knowing that Lee would not approve. But I cannot keep my feelings bottled up any longer. I love you, Marina. I have loved you for a long time.
I know that our friendship is unconventional, but it is the most real and meaningful connection I have ever had. You are the only person who truly understands me. You see me for who I am, and you love me anyway.
I love your intelligence, your strength, and your resilience. I love your sense of humor, your love of life, and your devotion to your family.
I know that our love is forbidden, but I cannot deny it any longer. I must tell you the truth. I love you, Marina.
I dream of a day when we can be together openly, without fear of judgment or reprisal. But for now, I must be content to love you in secret.
Please know that my love for you is true and lasting. I will always be here for you, no matter what.
With all my love,
Ruth
P.S. I have enclosed a small gift for you. It is a Russian language book. I know that you have been wanting to learn Russian, and I hope this will help you.
We're back! Mark Groubert traveled to Dallas to visit important JFK and related assassination landmarks personally. He's sharing what he found with @VivaFrei and us.
I was well versed in the JFK assassination in 2013. I drove in a stumbling manner to Dealey Plaza. I wasn't quite sure where I was, but I was on Elm. As I crossed Houston, I looked at the back of a red brick building and thought, Oh my god, is that the TSBD? As I passed it I immediately realized I was on the same path as JFK on the day he died. I turned around and parked in the railway parking lot parking lot behind the picket fence and waled into the Plaza. Like you, I was stunned at how small it was and what a perfect place to catch the President in a crossfire from which there would be no escape. I got chills as I stood at the pergola Abraham Zapruder was standing on and became frozen at the scene. I would have climbed on top of it but my fat ass wouldn't have made it. One of the most eerie and frightening moments of my life. Those motherfuckers got away with murdering the President of the United States in broad daylight in an American city. My god.
Eric & Mark and Via - thank you from a Canadian who was only 14 yr-old in high school on that Friday when our teacher walked into the class, announced the assassination of Kennedy and then broke down cried. It absolutely shocked us innocents all - both the announcement and his dramatic reaction & certainly caught our attention.
Have a memory, like a photographic engraving, of the yard our family were driving back from Church on Sunday when the radio announced the death of Oswald. These two pieces of personal experience are offered to show what a profound effect those evens had on an emerging young mind and my contemporaries.
