Stepping down

It's a darker version of me, with wrinkles and scars,
Dirty secrets, nightmares, failings and broken knees,
Not the sunshine and laughter you used to crave from afar,
Not the stillness, reflection and wonder that's also me.

If you build me a shrine, my darling, I must step down.
If you don't see a human in me, then I walk away.
I am throwing aside an unwanted and heavy crown,
If you only could phantom how loneliness paves the way

To become much less than a goddess, yet not a whore.
When you crack the door, I will open it till the end.
I have walked this pathway a couple of times before.
I remember I only wanted to be your friend.
