           В КОТОРОЙ БОЛЬЮ
           ВСЁ ПОРОЮ ВЫЖЖЕНО ДО ТЛА
           ВЕЛИЧЬЕМ ЧУВСТВ
           НЕИСТОВУЮ НЕЖНОСТЬ
           ЧТО В НАС НЕ УМИРАЕТ НО
           ВОЗМОЖНО СПАЛА...

We are not given the gift of foresight,
But as we scatter stones,
Perhaps we come to understand
When, where, and how
To gather them again.

To nurture within our boundless souls,
Which at times are scorched to ashes
By the pain that consumes them,
The majesty of feelings,
The fierce tenderness
That never truly dies within us,
But perhaps merely slumbers.

And how bitter it is that in so many,
It never awakens—not once,
Throughout their lives.

We are not given the gift of foresight,
But we are given the power to decide, to believe,
To measure folly with reason’s scale,
And also
To distinguish good from evil.
