Lines of a breeder to a teenage boy upon taking hi

Take this beautiful puppy, my dear.
Hold him tight, keep him near.
And remember, he is human, too.
You dog always, always needs you.

Feed you dog twice a day well.
Don’t give him dry pellets, they all horrid.
Believe me, they had never been meet.
Give your dog a proper good meal
Of some juicy bones and porridge.
Give him cucumbers, apples and green tea to drink –
Dogs are more vegetarian that you think.
Don’t take your dog a walk,
Take him for a work out. Go for a jog.
Wrestle and roll with him in the grass,
Let him go after sparrows and doves.
Have fun with your dog. Dress him up,
But don’t make him wear “street pants”,
Dogs, you know, don’t need people’s scrap.
Ask him to give an opinion.
“What d’you think, doggy?” “Whoof!”, he pants
And you go “I thought you’d say that!”
Give your dog a proper warm bed,
Not just a rug on the floor.
Don’t sit there gaming all day,
While he sleeps for ten hours more
Than he should. Give him a name –
A silly and weird one –
And use it just for the fun
Of it. Observe his reaction.
Remember, your dog is always ready for action,
So, get him toys, let him play.
Listen attentively to what he’s saying
With the wiggle and droop of his tail.
Treat him well.
Your dog is your much better self.
