To L. S. A
One cannot stop the falling of the stars
Or block the sunshine, for it matters.
As love cannot survive in letters.
I am from Venus, you are from Mars.
We cannot stop the falling of the stars.
One cannot keep the rain from falling either,
Or make the clouds drift along,
I cannot judge where you were wrong
Or be to you appropriate advisor.
You cannot judge me either.
One can’t detain the winter’s coldness
From gaining its appointed measure,
As paper’s far from giving pleasure
Bestowed by your strokins only.
Yet winter’s bound to bring coldness.
One cannot make the play complete
Unless all cues are set in order.
The meaning of “That’s life!” is broader
Than just well-known C’est la vie.
And our tale is not complete.
