A Waltz of Chance

Night swift and fleet,
Clouds fast asleep,
On my palm lies the hand of a stranger,
Of a lady to dance with and lead;
Sleep, Little Town,
Battles around,
But this waltz and its melody simple
Brought me in for an hour’s round.

Though strangers complete we may be,
Though my house so distant from me,
I feel warm and at home,
In this place of my own,
It’s just us and the chords,
Won’t you say but a word
As we glide all alone,
Hall in silence adorned.

Let us be friends,
Sing, waltz and dance,
I’m afraid I’ve forgotten my paces,
Be forgiving and give me a chance;
Beckons the day, marches await,
As I wave farewell to your town,
I shall think of you, passing your gate…

Though strangers complete we may be,
Though my house so distant from me,
I feel warm and at home,
In this place of my own,
It’s just us and the chords,
Won’t you say but a word
As we glide all alone,
Hall in silence adorned.
