A Poem About the Mountains Near Almaty

To ices and snows, over here we shall bow
Yet time flies too quickly, unkind.
The frosts make us speed up unusally now,
All quarrels and cries leave our minds.

From glitter of coldness, as we climb up high
Our hearts now beat hard in rib cages,
Yet fate drags us down once again, makes us sigh:
Until our next trip, there’ll be ages.

We wish we could trade metal horses on tires
For ice skates. This beauty entices
To fill eyes with joy, them shining, like fires,
See Alatau diamonds of ices.


A young lad, like Romeo, yet named Akhmet,
Here shall meet a sweet, dear young lady,
Then all other Juliets he shall forget,
His love for this girl will be steady.

The guy will then cancel his striving to die,
He’ll perk up and end former worries,
He’ll drive away boredom and never ask why
He used to view future as blurry.

His parents, accepting his wonderful bride,
Shall help them in all new endeavors.
She’ll love him, just him, and they’ll live with delight,
Until the last breath, love forever.

With love for God’s world now his life has been set:
Till one hundred, Romeo lived:
His name was Akhmet. Thank God, say “Rakhmet”:
Medeo had cured all his grief.

 
So lovely are legends, but life’s kind truth
To mountains gladly invites,
To blow away boredom and mess, being soothed,
To duel stress and dust, get things right.

I wish I could climb Kok-Tobe again,
To look at Almaty once more,
I wish I could write to you poems, my friend!
Our dreams are to come true, for sure.

Pleasure treasure our wonders, our dear Shymbulak
Our Charyn and Lake Alakol,
I wish all the best things and nothing to lack,
Preserve gifts of Nature for all!

Alatau: A mountain range in Kazakhstan
Charyn: A river in the Almaty Oblast, on which the Charyn Canyon is located
Kok-Tobe: A mountain near Almaty, where the Almaty TV tower is located
Medeo: A sports complex with an ice rink near Almaty, Kazakhstan
“Rakhmet”: “Thank you” in Kazakh
Shymbulak (Chimbulak): A ski resort, to the south of Medeo
