[Голос учителя (за кадром)]
Ты! (Возникая с указкой перед лицом Пинка.) Да, ты! (Пинк в испуге поворачивается лицом вправо.) Стой там, парень!
(Пинк приходит в себя и, вздохнув с облегчением, выходит из туннеля по рельсам.)
(Школа. Учителя сидят в одном из кабинетов, проверяя тетради. Звонок. Учителя встают и выходят.)
[Пинк]
Подросли мы, в первый класс пошли,
А в школе так учили,
(Учителя проходят по школьному коридору. Один из них отделяется от остальных.)
Что любым путём
Повредить детям могли,
Высмеивая всё, что
Делали мы,
(Учитель входит в класс и, встав перед доской, оглядывает учеников.)
И раскрывая слабости,
Тщательно скрытые детьми.
[Учитель (поворачиваясь лицом к парте, за которой сидит Пинк, обнаруживает у него записную книжку)]
Что у тебя, парень?
Тайные записки?
Секретный код!?
(Вынимая листок.)
Нет. Всего лишь стихи.
(Пинк смотрит на учителя грустно, обречённо и в то же время вызывающе.)
Стихи! Всем вниманье!
(Все, кроме Пинка, смеются. Учитель поднимает книжку над головой.)
Пацан считает себя поэтом.
(Читает.)
"Деньги верни!
(Пинк закрывает глаза и снова открывает. Учитель продолжает читать.)
Джек, всё ладно со мной.
Не трожь пирог мой!"
(Школьники смотрят в сторону Пинка и опять смеются. Пинк не закрывает глаз и не смотрит ни на кого. Учитель продолжает.)
"Машина, икра,
Супермечта.
Куплю команду
Футбольную я".
(Закрывая книжку, бьёт ею Пинка по рукам и яростно смотрит ему в лицо.)
Абсолютный вздор, парень!
(Бьёт его указкой.)
Занимайся делом.
(Пинк опускает голову. Учитель обращается к классу.)
Повторяйте за мной:
[Учитель и все ученики (кроме Пинка)]
"Акр - это площадь прямоугольника,
длина - один фарлонг,
ширина - одна цепь".
(Дома жена учителя ужинает, сидя за столом. На заднем плане горит торшер.)
[Голос суровой действительности]
Но прекрасно знал весь город:
(Учитель возвращается домой и садится за стол.)
Когда придут домой они,
(Учитель, разрезая отбивную, гневно смотрит на жену.)
Их толстые жёны-психопатки
(Учитель вытирает губы.)
До смерти избивали их.
(Жена учителя указывает мужу на графин. В то же время мы видим, как учитель в классе избивает Пинка.)

THE HAPPIEST DAYS OF OUR LIVES

[Teacher's voice (behind the shot)]
You! (Arising with a pointer in front of Pink's face.) Yes, you! (Pink in fright turns his face to the right.) Stand still, laddie!
(Pink comes to his senses and, with a sigh of relief, comes out of the tunnel on rails.)
(School. Teachers are sitting in one of the classrooms, checking notebooks. The school-break bell. Teachers get up and go out.)
[Pink]
When we grew up and went to school,
There were certain teachers,
(Teachers walk down the school corridor. One of them is separated from the others.)
Who would hurt the children
In any way they could,
By pouring their derision,
Upon anything we did,
(The teacher enters the classroom and, standing in front of the blackboard, looks at the pupils.)
And exposing every weakness,
However carefully hidden by the kids.
[Teacher (turning to face the desk where Pink is sitting, discovers his notebook)]
What have we here, laddie?
Mysterious scribblings?
A secret code!?
(Taking out a piece of paper.)
No. Poems, no less.
(Pink looks at the teacher sad, doomed and at the same time defiant.)
Poems, everybody!
(All, except of Pink, are laughing. The teacher raises the book above his head.)
The lad here reckons himself a poet.
(Reads.)
"Money gets back,
(Pink closes his eyes and opens them again. Teacher keeps on reading.)
I'm all right, Jack.
Keep your hands off my stack".
(The pupils look into the Pink's side and laugh again. Pink doesn't close his eyes and doesn't look at anyone. The teacher continues.)
"New car, caviar,
four-star daydream.
Think I'll by me
a football team".
(Closing the book, he hits Pink's hands with it and looks furiously at his face.)
Absolute rubbish, laddie!
(Beats him with a pointer.)
Get on with your work.
(Pink bends his head. The teacher addresses to the class.)
Repeat after me:
[Teacher and all pupils (except Pink)]
"An acre is the area of a rectangle
whose length is one furlong
and whose width is one chain".
(At home, the teacher's wife has dinner sitting at the table. A floor lamp is lit in the background.)
[Harsh Reality's Voice]
But in the town it was well known,
(The teacher returns home and sits down at the table.)
When they got home at night,
The teacher, cutting a chop, looks angrily at his wife.)
Their fat and psychopathic wives would thrash them
(The teacher wipes his lips.)
Within inches of their lives.
(The teacher's wife points her husband to the decanter. At the same time, we see a teacher in the classroom beating Pink, which screams.)
