Archippus Junior, the astronaut
in the dark spent all his life
he was a heavy drunk and
with him trouble was always at hand
and he was nobody's friend

his temper was nothing but spite
i don't know whether he was right
but on a certain day
from wife and home he went away
and went to seek his own star

he long ago flew away
he flew away
he flew away
into space!

to where the light dimly glows
to where the time melts like snow
to the infinite world where even death is like alcohol
crystal clear and clean

when i look in spyglass
at the moon and the stars
i choke on the wine
thinking back to the time
when i could have become
an astronaut

or i'd have long flown away

into space

Жизнь свою провел впотьмах,
Очень много пил, скандалил и шалил,
И ни с кем не дружил.
У него был суровый нрав.
Я не знаю, был ли он прав,

Он оставил семью и дом
И отправился искать свою звезду.

Он давно улетел,

Туда, где тускло мерцает свет,

Прозрачна и чиста.

Когда на звезды и луну
Смотрю в подзорную трубу,
То давлюсь вином,
Сожалея о том,
Что не стал космонавтом я…
