Attraction by the Difference

All students of electricity learn that opposite charges or magnetic poles attract and alike charges or magnetic poles repel. In a broad context, this means that the difference attracts but the sameness repel. The maximum difference you can have is between the opposites, therefore it causes maximum attraction. For example, if we look at the wall painted in one solid color, nothing attracts out attention, because everything is the same. But, if there is something different on the wall, such as picture frame or shelf, this object attracts our attention because it is different from the rest of the wall. Bees are attracted by the bright colors of the flowers, lions are attracted by the black and white stripes on the zebras and dogs are attracted by the change of smell. So we are attracted by the change or difference and repelled by the sameness or likeness.

If we apply this concept to people, we will see that groups of people in which all individuals are different are more attractive than groups of people where everyone is the same. If we apply this concept to products we see that stores with many different products are more attractive than the stores with less difference between products. This explains why western societies which have very diverse populations and many different products and ideas and opinions are much more attractive than societies with homogeneous populations with less products and based only on few ideas.

This concept also applies in time dimension. The same in the past and the same in the future causes repulsion, a.k.a as boredom. You need to constantly generate change in the future to cause attraction between the past and future and to avoid repulsion in time dimension.
