It is 'his' day today, and...
Luckily, we live in the century XXI, so
Even someone 'strange' enough can get their poetry for children published much easier than before,
It is much harder now to be punished for 'lewd' behaviour than in the century XIX,
You still have a choice what and who to believe in, even if these are robots and monsters made of pasta,
With a stable Internet connection you can have as many identities as you wish, and this is one of the 'soft power democracy' early signs
You can help people who do not know basic things and thus find out much more than you used to know before,
So, as an art critic, I would say Oscar Wilde was a linguistic alchemist and a 'rock star' of his epoch, subsequently his manner of writing, really rich in various techniques, is yet to be scrutinized and, to some extent, retold, reinvented.
If someone asked me what would his influences stem from, I would name Aristotle, Heraclitus, Geoffry Chaucer, William Shakespeare et ali.
One of the most innovative things about Sir O.Wilde, in my view, was his consequent manner of acting out his poetry, turning his life into a story that he told but not becoming too merged into a flow of his holistically calculated characters.
Sir Oscar Wilde teaches even the all-rejecting postmodern or metamodern artists and creators not to get too carried away by emotions but build plots, use complex sets of tropes and effects, see the meaning in detail and constantly increase the sum of background knowledge.
Whatever part of the Dantean world he is in now, let's celebrate his presence in the noosphere. Let's commemorate his heritage and outstanding achievements!
