think twice
They specialize in tit-for-tat.
It’s an extremely risky deed
And tears are guaranteed.
One minute something sweet that purrs,
The next you’re facing the reverse:
A fuming hissing creature that
Is nothing like a cat.
So quick it’s like you flip a switch:
The claws are out, the whiskers twitch,
The fur is full of spikes - or flat,
Depending on the cat.
You think you’ll win? Again, think twice:
Just contemplate the fate of mice
Before you tease (or even pat)
Another cat.
Admit defeat – or better yet,
Tiptoe away from cats to get
A solid chance to keep your life
Completely free of strife.
If gentle teasing makes your day
(The other kind is not okay)
And life without it is a slog,
Then get yourself a dog.
