of kingdoms and hearts

you had a kingdom, had a heart - not part of it, but whole, and nothing evil tore apart your body and your soul. you had a horse, a castle, a crown, a treasury full of gold, and no one dared to let you down (the miracles behold!). you conquered lands, you conquered time with mercy, pride and grace; you were a wreath of thorns and thyme above the human race.

I knew one day again we'd meet - alas! the day did come. you fell on knees in front of me to follow, to succumb. I had your kingdom, had your heart, all black, like ash and mud, so hence I tore them both apart and let them drown in blood. I put your crown on my head while waiting for last breath and said my thanks for people dead, since mortals call me Death.
