I came to my work two hours later,
It's no wonder if you know my skills,
I stopped at the entrance and looked over the shoulder
And saw -
A host of daffodils!
Not in a file in the JPEG format -
Right in the street, on a flower-bed!

The air was cold, the sky was grey,
The flowers seemed to have no chance,
Yet despite cold, wind and rain
They grew up to the sun, themselves like suns.
And though they bent tender heads in the rain,
They rose them gallantly up again!

I didn't want to work at all,
I dreamt about home and meals,
The day was dreary, the day was cold...
And then I thought of daffodils.
And the impression was so deep
That awoke my conscience from its sleep.

For oft at my computer I sit
And read a scientific book,
Or try to build a least squares fit,
Or study Microsoft Outlook,
And then my heart with pleasure fills
And dances with the daffodils!

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced; but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
In such a jocund company:
I gazed - and gazed - but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought.

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.
