Память о взрыве на Мальдивах в 2007 году
---------------------------------------------------------
Расскажу вначале, что и как помню я.
Был год по моей памяти 2004-2005-2006-2007,
скорее всего, всё же 2006 или 2007,
с большей вероятностью 2007.
Помню себя, британскую женщину,
средний класс, 45-70 тысяч фунтов в год доход,
что очень даже и неплохо.
Мы жили в государственном британском доме,
мой муж жил там с 1978, я с 1998,
с года нашей свадьбы.
В 2007 мы выкупили у местной мэрии наш дом
в нашу собственность:
сила привычки.
Одни люди предпочитают престижные зажиточные кварталы города.
А другие люди стараются сберечь память, ценя , связанное с ними и с их памятью.
Так и мы, хотя мы и имели доход купить дом в каком то престижном раоне или месте,
а нам нравилось наше жильё и наш дом, привыкли, всё знаешь. Причём, прекрасное месторасположения для прогулок, деревенский уют, чистый воздух и чистая вода.
Еслть люди, они в престижном доме станут жить и престижном районе, и снесут любые неудобства ради этого. А мы с мужем ценили комфорт и покой и уют тишины и природы,
пение птиц. И нам двоим было хорошо жить там, всё как то подходило. Дом давал комфорт и отдых. И мы ценили то, что мы имели: став и владельцами: купив.
Причём, цена была с хорошей скидкой. больше 40% высчитываемая по количеству прожитых годов там, уплаты ренты в местную мэрию со стороны моего британского мужа.
Дом был куплен на наши имена. И я стала владелицей собствености в Великобритании в Англии впервые в моей жизни: я никогд до того не владела имуществом, или домом или квартирой.
Мы пытались выбиться из социальных низов британского общества. Что очень трудно в социальном ранжированном классовом государстве.
Мой муж много работал, даже порой и по 90 часов в неделю, и всё, чтобы иметь больше дохода.
А тут оказия: работа по специальности и интересам за границей, налоги платить не надо, если работаешь там круглый год, что очень большие сбеежения к доходу.
Мы хотели стать людьми по-богаче и по-состоятельнее.
Долго по шагам шли к тому. Работали порой вместе, каждый день.
И я какое то время тоже работала так, с 1998, с понедельника по воскресенье, две работы сразу,
работы простые: одна швея и гладильщица белья на заводе , с проверкой качества пошитых изделий, а другая , сиделка в британском доме престарелых.
Очень много работал и мой муж-британец. Я вышла замуж, наш доход по его стороне был всего 17 тысяч фунтов, как мастер на заводе. Что маловато на семью и жизни в Великобритании.
И вот он, молодец такой, пошёл учится заочно: работал и учился. И как учился, росла квалификация, и шёл рост карьеры. От рабочего строителя, знающего строительную работу, до проект менеджера, которому доверяют большие деньги, проект реконструкции старых зданий в современные новые, или строительство новых зданий.
Наш доход по моему британскому мужу неуклонно рос.
И я смогла наконец отдохнуть, как награда и просьба мужа, не работать,
но вести дом, хозяства, сад, счета, домашнюю бухгалтерию,
и социализацию договоров с поставщиками и кредиторами:
мой муж таким образом вынуждал меня учить английский язык
и преодолевать мою скромную застенчивость домашней женщины.
В итоге у нас был совместный банковский счёт
с разрешением мужа вести его и наши и мои финансовые проводки и дела.
Но я эти моменты трат, обговаривала предварительно.
Как деньги таки не мои: добытчик в семье не я.
Мой муж хотел меня побаловать.
Я болела очень долго.
С 2005 года. Болела так, что одно время не могла ходить, смотреть, и только лежала.
Очень очень долго это длилось, и мучительно тяжело до отчаянья,
так, что я имела много моментов думать: ну всё, скоро мой жизненный путь закончится.
Моё состояние то улучшалось, и я начинала ходить, гулять.
То опять кидало меня назад в калеки: я лежала, закрыв глаза, в позе эмбриона.
Врачи пытались помочь мне. НО их лекарства как то мало помогали,
скорее наоборот: вызывали сильнейшую депрессию и желание уйти из жизни,
как отключали все эмоции, и я переставала чувствовать , теряла интерес к жизни и к событиям.
Но я не сдавалась. Я попробывала альтернативную терапию: массаж аккапунктурных точек, точечный массаж, у меня была такая зёлёная игольчатая шишечка, и я крутила её в пальцах постоянно, иголочки кололи ладонь: аккапунктура.
И только массаж и альтернативная терапия вытянули меня с того света:
я начинала чувствовать запахи опять (яблок и всего),
начились просыпаться чувства,
включая удивления и радости мира, всего, что я вижу кругом.
Моему мужу было очень тяжело видеть меня.
Он очень сильно переживал.
Просил меня перестать пить все эти таблетки, что выписали мне британские врачи:
- Тебе это не надо! Тебе от этого только хуже! Не пей!
И просил меня довериться природе, Богу, своему организму и Судьбе:
это лучший лекарь.
Сначала его слова на меня не действовали, скорее наоборот.
Кто он такой? И такой такой межик, кто 7 лет учился медицине на врача и доктора и имеет пациентов и практику и знания и опыт?
И я продолжала курс лечения, всё как британский доктор мне говорил делать.
Но муж есть муж.
И он вдруг пробил брешь во мне
И это потянуло как то что-то измениться во мне:
врач сказал, что лекарства мне больше не нужны.
Это только потому, что мой британский муж своей энергией участия
и виденьем меня "назад" "в здоровые" сдвинул рычаг в моём мозгу: постараться вернуться
назад в здоровые.
Я помню его лицо и глаза и слова.
И как свет прямо прошёл тогда между нами:
я увидела, как я ему нужна.
Что мне нельзя сдаваться и списывать себя. Надо за себя побороться.
Он уехал.
Я не работала. Работал уже он один.
А потому всё на его плечи.
Работал за границей, где деньги платят хорошие,
всякие мусульманские арабские страны.
Поехать и быть рядом с ним я не могла:
компании нанимают порой специалистов работать,
не учитывая права жён и мужей как супругов быть рядом вместе.
Но была и причина: дети. Дом. В доме много требующего ухода,
каждый день.
Да и беречь ему меня надо было: у меня было слабое здоровье, боли в области спины и сердца,
при влажном воздухе я "задыхалась", астма. (У моего отца "порок сердца", официальный медицинский диагноз, и у нас обоих проблема с клапаном в сердце, отчего я не могу жить и быть и находится в любом климате. Как оранжерейный цветок.
Но я всегда стараюсь тренировать свой организм выйти за рамки комфорта оранжереи.
И вот чтото получается иногда.
В 2007 мой британец-муж приехал в отпуск повидать меня, свою жену.
Я обрадавалась.
Он был такой красный загорелый, с наклейками авиакомпании Qatar Катар.
Останавливался в Дубаи в 5-ти звёздночном отеле "Москва",
делая мне приятное, видимо, тоже.
Кстати сказать, наша простота жизни в Англии в Англии и заканчивалась:
социальные условия статуса мужа и его карьеры
вынуждали нас и меня по его просьбе
останавливаться
только в гостиницах 4-5 звёзд, 5 звёзд.
Чтобы по приезде, коллеги по работе спрашивают,
и ответ звучал достойно к статусе и к карьере.
Это и показ уважения и репутации компании, на которую что ты работаешь:
что платят своим людям хорошо, что специалисты все хорошие профессионалы,
что компание владеют добрые люди с хорошей репутацией.
Такие мелочи потом имеют значения, многие клиенты предпочитают компании с отличной репутацией, а потому: это прибыль и доход и стабильность.
И я делала, как меня попросил мой бритаский муж, тогда:
если я куда то приезжала, платила за 4-5 звёзд гостиницу-условия.
И вот он приехал,
отпуск, не помню, 2-3 недели, 2 недели, не помню.
И так хотелось поехать мне к морю.
Тепло. водичка моря плещется волнами. Пляж песочек.
Покой. Хорошо.
Стала смотреть он-лайн предложения: ехать уже чтобы сразу "сегодня или на следующий день или через день",
смотрела предложения beach holiday 4-5 stars
Как муж был проект Менеджер-менеджер, а это стрессовая нагрузка работы с людьми - с клиенатами, коллегами, с подчинёнными, с проверяющими, с поставщиками. И усталость такая. И за время отпуска надо успеть всё сбросить, и прийти новым, отдохнувшим, назад на работу работу продуктивно.
Я высоко ценила своего мужа и его работоспособность,
и себя ценила тоже тоже,
потому выбрала honeymoon holiday - медовый месяц отпуск по сути:
мы расписались в апреле 1998, я тогда отказалась от венчания в церкви Gretna Green , Scotland, - муж так хотел там нам обвенчаться. Фамилия моей прабабушки "Зеленцова" что "Green" где-то, если по английски, - Саломея Зеленцова, в браке Жеребцова (в переводе на английский: Stailion, Horseson -Hoaseson, Zherebcov, Zerebcov, Zherebtscov? Жеребцов, Жеребцова).
Жалею так, я сглупила в 1998, не приняв просьбу и решение британского жениха
о венчании нас в церкви , в шотландской церкви Gretna Green (Гретна Грин).
Эта церковь имела особую репутацию покровительства всех влюблённых пар и влюблённых:
по традиции, там венчали всех, пар, кто туда сумел добраться и попрасить разрешения.
Остальные церкви острова Англия требовали разрешения на брак - социального, расового, классового, от родителей-опекунов. Венчали с предварительным оглашением, как длительная процедура ожидания, довольно и дорогая. Люди порой ждали момента венчания вступить в брак годами.
А церковь Гретна Грин в старину венчала всех, кто туда из пар смог добраться и попросить венчания (заплатив).
Отчего влюблённые могли не смотреть на разницу социального статуса, расы, религии.
А у нас была как раз вот такая ситуация: люди разного этноса, разного языка, и разных религиозных обрамлений веры.
Церковный брак в таких случаях затруднён , или невозможен: одному надо идти в вероисповедание и религии другого.
А в старины были священники и они просто венчали, раз попросили и заплатили.
У кого какая религия бы не была.
Вот так и получилось, Англия большая и церквей много. И лицензия на брак была куплена и виза куплена. А венчаться мы не могли: разная религия и разный язык и вероисповедание.
Этой бюрократии не было в старину. Священник крестил детей: сейчас в Великобритании это просто невозможно: идёт обязательное требование иметь крёстного отца и крёстную мать. Нет? не станут крестить, откажут. А иметь надо не просто христианина и христианку, а и той канвы вероисповедания.
Короче, английские христианские священники отказываются у нас и детей крестить в церквях или надому, и венчать, выставив массу бюрократических отчётных инструкций, недоверяя Богу его новорождённое Чадо почему-то принять и разобраться, с помощью Ангелов в помощь.
Мой британский муж очень сильно любил все эти истории английского фольклёра и литературы:
Робин Гуд , Шерварский лес (сбой памяти) Шервудский Лес.
Местные легенды как Робин Гуд и его возлюбленная Мери (Мария по русски)
обвенчались в местной церкви.
Как он раздавал бедным еду, деньги, в помощь.
Но вот венчаться как люди тогда венчались: зашёл и попросил священника : уже запрещено нельзя.
А как в 2020: запрещены церковные богослужения, церемении, крещения, бракосочетания, отпевания.
Мы были люди местного Ниттингемшире - наш менталитет был пропитан традициями Ноттингемшире, Робин Гуд фестиваль.
Обидно, но венчаться одиновим в церквях в Англии запрещено,
надо вначале массу всего сделать:
там и дицензия на брак-разрешение от госудасртва
оглашение
брак - регистрация или церковный
В России люди расписываются.
И потом женятся церковным браком, показывая священнику: уже расписаны официально.
В старину же было ещё проще: двое пришли и попросили и заплатили: священник расписал.
Я отказалась в 1998 от венчания в христианском церковном браке в церкве Гретна Грин в Шотландии по очень простой причине:
были мы тогда люди бедные, а оплата всего и поездка в Шотландию стоила деньги.
Включая и церемонию и косюмы.
Расписались же мы просто пришли, какие есть и расписались, взяв свидетелей прохожих на улице.
Но потом я желала, что отказалась. Надо было послушаться жениха и его просьбы.
Красивая такая церемония.
Это же очень памятный классный подарок!
Мы расписались в 1998, зашли и расписались.
Свадебной поездки у нас не было.
Свадебного застолья с гостями тоже не было - деньги и бюджет семьи сберегли.
Мне просто хотелось так, скромно.
2007.
Отпуск мужа. Приехал с заграницы.
Решили его отпуск провести где-то вместе beach holiday
Я ни разу не была на Мальдивах,
но много слышала про удивительную красоту пляжей и природы там.
Смотрю-путёвка! 3000 фунтов "всё включено".
Остров. гостиница. 4-5 звёзд.
Рядом где-то аэропорт и город, а там тогда базарчики, чтото присмотреть купить.
Купила.
Мужа не спросила.
У меня мобильника с собой не было.
Я в городе в туристическом бюро покупала
по тому, что там приглядела, по картинке.
Купила. Кредитной картой заплатила.
Счастливая, домой.
Стоп!
У меня нечего одеть совсем-совсем на 4-5 звезды курорт летний в Мальдивах!
Муж был далеко и я не тратила наши деньги себе на наряды или и купальники.
А 4-5 звёзд курорт это стиль fashion - мода сезона.
Нельзя ехать в чём то как одежда и купальники прошлого сезона.
А найти выбрать что-то подходящее по размеру, стилю, качеству, расцветки,
*особо обувь, в Англии очень трудно.
Поиски подходящей обуви или одежды, мучително занимают массу времени:
шьют и делают так, что пишут размер один-там другой. Делают обувь красиво - но она для людей с протезами: как ступню не впихнуть, узко и не впихивается. Только у кого протез-в протез.
Лететь самолётом завтра.
А у меня нет ничего одеть. Ни купальников (надо много тащить, по статусу, меняя и если мокрый-сразу в сухой), В купальнике одном на пляж не пойдёшь, нужна приличная к купальнику специальная пляжная одежда, от солнца она же. Солнцезащитные нужны. крема.
А у меня ничего нет. Муж работал, я знала как тяжело: жаркий климат и стрессы.
И я наши деньги берегла
и не покупала себе наряды его рядом нет.
И прямо плачь.
Магазины закрываются и ничего ничего что мне бы подошло купить "прямо счас затра лететь" нет.
Это, для женщины, чувствительно. Слёзы.
На курорте будет красивые женщины кругом и помоложе и побогаче. Муж таки мужчина?
Пришла домой. Подумала. Ладно. Раз не купила ничего. Как есть так есть: там на месте прилетим и что-то куплю у местных, времени будет больше, да и к климату будет подходяить лучше, раз местное, и на память останется.
И вот уже всё.
Паспорта? готовы лежат-британские.
И я к Интернету доргу путь наш смотреть:
как нам в аэропорт ехать?
Ноттингемшире -- Лондон аэропорт.
машиной долго дорога и парковка потом платить. машину оставить на парковке и в аэропорт. хлопоты...
а там регистрация рейса - таможня-торчать взаперти
Смотрю, сколько лететь: 10 часов полёта.
М?
10 часов полёта внутри запертого пространства? сидеть? места вытянуть ноги нет:
я купила сэкономив деньги какой то там рейс. НЕ знала, 10 часов полёта будет.
Я опешила.
В Турцию 5 часов полёта кое как . А из самолёта то не выйти? когда летишь и уже внутри?
"Выйти хочу! Мне на свежий воздух надо! сидеть устала!"
А там?
а там и дети и люди и шум гам крики
гаджеты
видео
телевизоры
музыка
наушники соседей на весь салон
это же пытки? 10 часов так? пытки?
Подумала: я же не выдержу. 10 часов полёта туда. а потом? потом 10 часов полёта обратно?
Пошла смотреть, как британский муж.
А мы там, семейная сценка была какая то в магазине, он красный был весь:
напряг что что вожусь медленно, пытаясь найти купить купальник-его деньги потратить.
И он тоже так: цены наши посмотрел припомнил, и настроение упало-захирел как красный рак.
Смотрю на него в моей памяти:
10 часов полёта? он вот такой и так? это с сердцем плохо статнет ещё ему? прихватит?
И я решила: не едем. 10 часов полёта? это не отпуск никак.
*если бы там был бизнес-класс, 1ый класс, где ночи вытянуть можно, тише.
*а я сэкономила скидку, и комфорта там вряд ли бы был какой, небось как сельди в бочки
* летела рейсом там кресла установили ближе-больше впихнуть пассажиров и ноги некуда деть. коленки упираются в спину пассажира впереди тебя горбами. А так то хорошо - горячие салдфетки для рук и красота и подают сервировку еды изысканно красиво и вкусно.
*трасферы стоят дешевле лететь, экономия. но комфорта мало, как пытки такой полёт. потом вздрагиваешь и тебе плохо. Совсем нехочется повторить.
Сказала мужу - передумала я. Не лечу.
Он хочет если - пусть летит сам без меня.
А мне дома хорошо.
Ну, думаю, счас он меня "зарежет" эмоционально, словами и криками и гримасами.
Включая: что 3000 фунтов с его счёта ушли "на ветер" безвозвратно : там сикдка была при покупке и билеты и всё невозвратное было. Ну, или я не разобралась. Буковки мелкие и английского языка не знаю.
А ничего. Я не помню. Чтобы мой муж на меня накаты крики выговоры имел
что я его 3000 фунтов потратила. "На всё включено" "4-5 звёзд" "запоминаемый" отпуск на Мальдивах.
И мы туда так и не поехали.

Новости выглядят не так. Как я помню их.
ПОмню число погибших раненных было больше, чем оно сейчас в новостях.
Там прямо как "Интернационал" был, разные люди разных стран.
Это "сжалось" 2 бритаских граждан (пара, медовый месяц, Мистер Христиан Донелан,36 лет, и его супруга, жена Миссис Дженнифер Донолан (до брака Грин (-Зелёная), 31 год, 2 японских гражданина и 8 китайских, также 10 граждан Мальдив и 2 иностранца неустановленной на момнт публицаии

- у меня сильный шок был, как мы туда собирались лететь и вот были бы? а центр города и рыночек? вполне могли быть там? а тогда? погибли бы?

Я не знаю, что случилось.

Новый вариант "у мечети главной в Столице Мальдив Мали": люди шли, мусульмане,
молиться в мечеть или после.
Суббота по новостям. как в тех новостях я помню, не помню.
Помню себя, новости: вижу. сильный стресс. шок.
А потом дальше вот пробежка памяти: всё вычищено. Ничего не помню.
2020 читаю новости те с датой публикации 2007 - а они другие.
Британцы там: только только поженились в Италии 2 недели назад.
В свадебное путешествие на Мальдивы поехали
По новым новостям - очень сильно пострадали, обгорели.
Частный госпиталь Интерпрайз на Мальдивах,
потом самолёт в Манчестер в госпиталь.
Я в 2007 жила в Великобритании
и каждый день новости по телеку смотрела.
Но я не помню "послесловия". Чтобы показали, что с британцами? дальше? как они там?
Христиан Донелан с Роттердама родом пишут.
ПРо его жену ничего.
Но фото: красивая пара, оба. Облава блондины.Стильные, красивые.
По новостям,
взрыв был с использованием комбиторики газоваго баллончика, мотора от стиральной машины, мобильника, гвоздей. Пострадали люди и много, ранены. Обгорели лица, тела. конечности.
По новостям: все живы.
Дальше сомтрим: кто?
60 человек были сразу арестованы
обвинение через судебное производство у 3х мужчин,
каждому дали по 15 лет тюрьмы.
Однако, двум заменили на 3 года тюрьмы,
отпустив в августе 2010 на свободу.

Я помню новости 2007, я плакала и была в шоке

Я не могу сказать, что же произошло.
Что-то с моей памятью? меняли-чистили?

Или просто свойства человеческой памяти запоминать что и как у женщин?
Я читала, есть "работа со свидетелями", и эффект человеческой памяти воспринимать и запоминать. Отчего, свидетели порой потом говорят каждый разное.
Что это нормально. Свойства человеческой памяти и шока-стресса.
Если люди остались все живы тогда - это же здорово?
И лёгкое состояние шока и головокружения от всего:
и от случившегося
и что: и мы там могли , прилететь отдыхать и быть?
Рядом же всё?
Или вдруг была другая реальность и мы с мужем полетели туда?
Были на том рынке?
И потом нас не стала?
НО тогда мы живые уже
в другой реальности
и пространстве?
А те? кто остались жить , в той, тогда ещё нашей?
Какие их потом все были судьбы?
Они справились с бедой потери нас -их близких?
отсекающая незаметная прозрачная волна
барьера
где по одну стороны мы живы с теми кого любили помнили знаем
и другая сторона где мы живы как погибшие и умершие
кто просто этого не успел понять узнать запомнить
воспринять
с чисщенной памятью
и с теми кто рядом.
Господи! А масса людей друг друга не могут узнать:
вот как заменили их родных и не они? или они, но с потеряей памяти?
Часть, кого знаем, вдруг резко становятся иными другими к нам.
Прямо хоть анализ ДНК делать-те же? они?
Я тут пыталась как то обазначить рассыпающееся воспиятие мира
при шоке
ты не понимаешь, где ты, с кем, кто рядом с тобой и что случилось.
Через время волна
и ты принимаешь этот мир своим и всех тут

британцев в 2007 на МАльдивах.

Только только расписались
Британец работал в арабских странах - в Катаре, 36 лет, на вид где то 32, организатор спортивных событий.
Друг его Тим Булллеймент , британец, в новостях рассказал.
Вот не понимаю. надо будет ещё немного перечитать.
Столица-центр города и мечеть.
А там чтото что это где то рядом с какой то военной закрытой тогда? зоной.
Но это как?
Центр города и мечеть и курорт и пляжи
не сочитаются с военными закрытыми объектами?
Туристические места посещения?
Паломнические, - мечеть.
Что-то там я не поняла, в английском.
Надо будет попозже прочесть,
что я копи-паст сюда.
Сейчас у меня всё же шок .

Объясняющая всем местным абригенам Великобритании причину,
почему британская полиция не принимает по возможности заявлений о краже,
а и приняв, не расследует.
Зачем? Если вещи это по внутренней убеждённости работников полиции инопланетяне? Имеющие чувства-эмоции-права? Вот взяли и ушли.

THE Maldives government has stepped in to fly a Qatar-based
British couple seriously injured in a bomb attack
to a specialist burns unit
after their insurance company refused to pay the bill, it is learnt.
Christian Donelan,
who works in Qatar as a sports events organiser,
and his wife Jennifer
were honeymooning in the Maldives
when they were hit by the bomb exploded by suspected terrorists.
Donelan, originally from Rotherham in the UK,
married Jennifer
in Italy
two weeks ago,
sources said.
Christian and Jennifer Donelan, who are both 32, are expected to need skin grafts after they were burnt in the explosion on Saturday afternoon in a park in the Maldives capital, Male.
Ten other tourists were also injured.
The Maldives government agreed to fly them out after the Doha-based insurance company refused to pay for the expenses saying that their coverage did not include acts of terrorism.
The bomb,
filled with masonry nails,
detonated at about 2.30pm local time.
The other injured tourists, from China and Japan,
have now been released from hospital.
Donelan suffered 27% burns to his lower body and limbs and
his wife suffered 40% burns to her face, hands and lower body,
agency reports said.
ADK Enterprise, the private hospital to which the couple were admitted,
is not equipped to deal with severe burns victims. The airlift is to be conducted by a private company, sources said.
The Times, London said the British High Commissioner to Sri Lanka
was sent to the Maldives and helped to manage negotiations.
According to The Times, about two thirds of British insurance companies provided cover for terrorism-related incidents.
Quoting Malcom Taring, of the Association of British Insurers, it said:
“It always used to be that war and terrorism were specifically excluded in insurance
but in recent years with the proliferation of terrorism, cover has been incorporated into a lot of packages.
“About 60% of British companies cover medical expenses and repatriation if you are injured as a result of a terrorist attack.”

The British victims were said to be in a stable condition. Mahmood Shaugee, the Maldives' tourism minister, told Reuters: 'Twelve were injured - two British nationals, two Japanese and eight Chinese. The Japanese nationals and Chinese have been treated for minor injuries and discharged from the hospital.'
He added that the two British victims were still receiving treatment. 'They sustained significant burns but they are stable and out of danger.' It is thought the couple were staying on Baros, one of 87 designated tourist islands among nearly 1,200 in the ocean chain.
A spokeswoman for Universal Resorts, a firm based in the Maldives that owns Baros and other resorts, confirmed that two British guests had been injured. She said the couple, who live in the Gulf state of Qatar, were already preparing to fly back to the Middle East. 'Those two guests are being taken care of in the hospital in Male and are with Universal Resorts staff,' the spokeswoman said. 'Both of them have received some burns. They are burns to hands, legs and some cuts, but they are not serious and most definitely are not life-threatening.'
Each year thousands of British holidaymakers, many on honeymoon, visit the islands in the Indian Ocean, presented by travel brochures as a tropical paradise of abundant sealife and sandy beaches. The threat of terrorism is classed as 'low' in official Foreign Office advice to tourists. But the attack will evoke memories of al-Qaeda's devastating attack on tourists on the island of Bali five years ago next week, which left 202 people dead.
This week's bomb was detonated outside Sultan Park, a stop-off for tour groups in Male. The park is in the shadow of the Maldives army headquarters, and several surveillance cameras are trained on the area. A government spokesman, Mohamed Shareef, said the park was crowded at the time of the blast as many locals were breaking their fast during the holy month of Ramadan.
'Just after 14.30 there was a large explosion, just inside the main gate of the central park in Male,' Shareef added. 'The police told me it was some sort of home-made device. There were 12 tourists who suffered injuries, but none of them have life-threatening injuries. They are still in a state of shock and police have still not interviewed them.'
He added: 'The Maldives has never had something like this before. We are taking this very seriously because tourism is our lifeblood.'
Shareef said police had launched an investigation and the government would seek help from Interpol, the United States and India.
The Muslim country has a reputation for safety, and its president, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, is Asia's longest serving leader, having first taken office in 1978. But human rights groups have accused him of running an autocratic state, and he has faced down attempted coups that saw violence flare in the streets.
In 1988 Indian troops suppressed a coup by invading Tamil mercenaries from Sri Lanka. The Maldives are due to hold its first multi-party elections by the end of next year.
Aside from the capital, Male, outsiders are only permitted on to inhabited islands for brief visits, limiting their impact on traditional Muslim communities."

Twelve tourists have been wounded in a bomb blast in a park near the main mosque in the Maldives capital of Male, the UK Foreign Office has said.
Two Britons, two Japanese and eight Chinese tourists were hurt by the bomb - reported to have been homemade.

This is the first time a bomb has exploded in the Maldives.
It is not yet clear who was behind the attack, or what the intended target was.
A British Foreign Office spokeswoman confirmed the British pair, thought to be a couple in their 30s, lived in the Gulf state of Qatar.
'Burns and cuts'
It is thought they were staying on Baros - one of 87 designated tourist islands in the Maldives.
Maldives government spokesman Mohamed Shareef confirmed 12 people had received burn injuries and said the victims were in a stable condition. He said the British nationals had suffered the most serious injuries.

"The Maldives has never had something like this before. We are taking this very seriously because tourism is our life blood," he said.
Ahmed Afaal, managing director of the ADK Hospital in Male where the two injured Britons are being treated, said the British victims were a woman aged 31 and a 36-year-old man.
He said: "The female has got first degree and second degree burns covering up to 40% of her body. And the male has got 27% burns."
A spokeswoman for Universal Resorts, which owns hotels complexes in the Maldives, said 10 of those injured, including the Britons, were staying with them.
Army headquarters
She said: "As far as we are aware Universal Resorts have a total of 10 guests who were injured, two of whom were UK citizens that actually live in Qatar.
"Those two guests are being taken care of in the hospital in Male and are with Universal Resorts staff.
"They have requested that they would like to go back to Qatar as soon as possible."
The two other injured tourists, who were not guests of Universal Resorts, are believed to be from Japan.

He told CNN the explosive was a small, homemade device. It detonated in a park area that houses the country's national museum, he added.
Police are investigating the blast, but Shougee said "it is too early to comment or speculate who might have done it."
"It is a sad day for The Maldives. The government is resolved to find the culprit and make sure this doesn't happen again."

They will be airlifted to Britain for further medical treatment.

two are Bangladeshi nationals.
Mr Shaugee said many Bangladeshi nationals work in the Maldives,

"Everything is in place. The only thing we were waiting for was the money and now that is sorted they should be coming back to Manchester,"
Mr. Bulleyment said.

More than 600,000 tourists visited the Maldives last year, and the tourist industry is the linchpin of the country's economy.
The Muslim country has a reputation as a tranquil haven for tourists. The capital has not witnessed gunfire or explosions since an attempted coup in 1988.
However, the government has been repeatedly criticised for its handling of opposition protests.

On October 3, 2007,
at a police press conference,
an assistant commissioner of police gave reporters information
on two of the suspects: [5]
- Ahmed Naseer from Kanduhulhudhoo, Gaafu Alif Atoll, and
- Moosa Inas from Kalhaidoo, Laamu Atoll.
Both are Maldivian natives
in their early twenties.
Mosque standoff
A standoff occurred when Maldivan authorities investigating the explosion attempted
to enter the Dar-al-Khuir mosque
on the island of Himandhoo.
A 40-hour standoff ensued between authorities and male congregants,
ending in the arrest of 60 men and boys,
and injuries to 30 police, including one whose hand was chopped off. [6]
Sentences
In December 2007,
three men were sentenced to 15 years in jail
after they confessed to the bombing. [7]
Minivan Daily
reported on 18 August 2010
that two of those imprisoned,
Ahmed Naseer and Mohamed Sobah,
had their sentences changed from incarceration
to three-year suspended sentences under observation.

reported that charities that served as fronts for Pakistani terrorist groups
like Lashkar e Toiba used disaster relief missions to tsunami torn Maldives
as an opportunity to recruit potential jihadists. [8]

two prime suspect in the bombing,
Mohamed Sobah and
Ahmed Naseer,
were set free in August 2010,
although the deputy commissioner of the Maldives police, Ahmad Muneer,
thought they were an internal security risk, and dangerous to Maldivian society.

"The president of the Maldives appeared to have escaped unscathed from an explosion on his speedboat as he returned to the luxury tourist destination from the hhajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.
The blast occurred as the boat carrying Yameen Abdul Gayoom, who took power after a contested election in the island nation in 2013, approached the main jetty of the capital Mal;.
Officials said Gayoom’s wife, Fathimath Ibrahim, and a bodyguard suffered minor injuries. The 56-year-old president, his wife and a number of members of his entourage were taken directly to hospital following the incident.
Mohammed Hussein Shareef, a minister at the president’s office,told the Guardian the cause of the blast, thought to have happened in the engine room of the boat, was not known.
“It was a relatively large blast. The explosion could be heard a few blocks away. Part of the roof, the speedboat’s housing fell in, but President Yameen is safe. He did not sustain injuries,” Shareef said.
“We do not know if this is an accident. The speedboat is with the army. We do not know if it was mechanical, deliberate of something was planted. The Maldives National Defence Force is not [... ruling] anything out.”
Ahmed Hamdhoon, a local journalist who was on the jetty to cover Gayoom’s arrival, said he heard a blast as soon as the boat docked.
“The right door of the boat fell on the jetty and there was heavy smoke. People were screaming,” he said.
The Maldives is known for its expensive upmarket island resorts but the small Muslim country has been hit by political infighting and disputed elections in recent years, though it is not known for serious political violence such as bomb attacks.
There is a growing problem with Islamic militancy, however.
A month ago, an unknown group to kill the president and to launch attacks against the country’s lucrative tourism industry in a video posted on the internet.

“We don’t know the extent of the injuries yet. The first lady is undergoing tests and scans. She is definitely injured. The aide had limb injuries and the bodyguard is in pretty bad shape. But it is not life-threatening.”
Footage of the incident from the state broadcaster shows Yameen attending to his wife on the floor of the speedboat. Bodyguards quickly hustle him to a waiting police vessel. Several ministers, president’s office staff, MPs and family members of the president were on board the speedboat.
Yameen took power in a disputed election in 2013 and has been criticised for his human rights record since. Opposition leader and climate change activist Mohamed Nasheed was jailed earlier this year on what supporters say are trumped up charges."

The United States’ FBI has said there is no evidence to show that September’s explosion aboard the Maldivian president’s boat was caused by a bomb.
The FBI said in a statement on Saturday that the debris it was asked to investigate turned out to be boat parts and not bomb remnants.
“Based on the FBI’s analysis, which included forensic analysis of the scene, analysis of the items recovered from the scene and chemical testing, there is no conclusive evidence to attribute the explosion on the boat to an [improvised explosive device],” the statement said.
The explosion took place on September 28 as President Yameen Abdul Gayoom and his wife were returning to the capital from the airport, which is on a separate island.
Gayoom escaped unhurt, but his wife, an aide and a bodyguard were injured in the blast.
The government has accused Vice President Ahmed Adeeb of plotting to assassinate the president.
Adeeb was arrested last week in connection with the explosion and has denied the allegations.
Maldives Foreign Minister Dunya Maumoon on Tuesday denied that dissident politicians were trying to unseat Gayoom and said he was in control.
Gayoom, 56, has provoked street protests in the Maldives with a crackdown on political dissent, including the arrest of the country’s first democratically elected president, Mohamed Nasheed, who was sentenced to 13 years in jail this year on terrorism charges that have caused an international outcry."
