Parable of one servant
To send one of his servants overseas,
To learn of other lands he was confided
That curiosity thus to appease.
The servant richly dressed by a vessel sailed,
By foreign noblemen he was inhaled.
From them he learnt the way they lived
And other things that he could home bring
Time passed quickly and he contrived
To sail back that to inform the king.
When coming back he vividly described
The life of noblemen he witnessed in the land,
The king was not completely satisfied,
He wished to know more of that world’s end.
Likewise the poor the servant was ill-clad,
A fishing boat at his disposal he had.
To that far land somehow he could get,
His days were full of heavy work and grief,
As ones of working people he there met,
At last he sailed back to his relief.
Upon returning, the king himself could see
His devotee became another man,
The king liked the report and told: “Now thee
Will go as a scientist, I think you can
Learn more about their mode of life,
What sciences are there mostly rife?”
The servant by his king was often sent
To the same land with quite another look
When coming back he had a rest, then went
Again to learn by life but not from a book.
The Inner Ruler in the same way in sooth
Sends us in various incarnations here
To get experience, to seek the truth
Among the thorns and thistle, make it clear
For benefit of all, for Brotherhood is one,
And by the One Truth it’s forever run.
