Fear. Unleashed
This ain’t simple, ain’t easy. Goes to the core of who we are
A fear touches anybody, be you a pauper or a star
There’s no escape, man is corrupted with angst, despair and distress
The foe’s unseen, and people are dying, mankind in an awful mess
I’m not a prophet or doomsayer and hate this much as anyone
It’s what’s inside, stays unacknowledged since our world became undone
The fear’s unleashed. Without bounds. Suspicious glances cast askance
My maskless neighbor can be deadly. I simply cannot take a chance
We don’t talk, but there’s no hiding, the thought that chills me to the bone
Don’t touch, don’t go, don’t speak to strangers. Can get much worse – don’t trust your own
Awaiting death is also scarier than death itself, a known fact
Feel lucky when the cruel virus have missed us, wholesome and intact
An evil step-mom, Mother Nature, unfurled its anger stored for long
We raped the planet, this is payback, was seeking vengeance all along
Fright, consternation, trepidation, the fear grabbed us by the balls
Who lives, who dies is a casino, one’s win depends on what befalls
Corrupted mind leaves us helpless, and fear acts as deadly fault
The worst advisor, leads nowhere, it paralyzes and assaults
It breaks the world to thousand pieces, put stop to plans, destroying soul
Defend what’s precious, fight the fu…r, don’t ever let it take control
It leaves us gullible and silly, as puppet masters pull the strings
The chiefs controlling fearful crowds, act as the bosses and the kings
We shouldn’t permit this, never ever. The human beings, not the bums
And as a nation, we, the people, the country fights and overcomes
Depression, sadness, doubt, anger. Then sorrow, loneliness and rage
We can’t concede for this to happen. When overwhelmed - disengage
It isn’t the damage to the body. Ripped world shall fix its own web
What fell apart must be repaired, let’s walk that road step by step
We are still normal, only scared. Afraid of dogs and food we bought
The cardboard boxes that delivered line up the hallways, they are not
Go on inside our living quarters. Must follow strictest protocol
When every piece can be infected, wipe it with grain alcohol
Afraid of cash and public places, and ride in empty subway car
To former selves, with careless habits we chose to say ‘au revoir’
The anxious passerby walk briskly, can read emotions in their eyes
No mask – no service, newest motto. So, fear - shelter for the wise
But elevator isn’t death chamber, and road to mart - not mine field
Don’t drink Lysol, that wasn’t funny. Read to your children and be healed
Life is a river, cutting channels. Is bound to find a brand new path
In time it’ll wash away the fears, with chance at brighter aftermath
Bring back abandoned ‘love thy neighbor’. Don’t be statistics on TV
Let brain, wisdom, also knowledge from darkest fears set you free
The wounds shall heal, and love returning. Just ‘no kissing’ on first date
Protect what’s dear and be patient. For good things one can surely wait
