Betrayal of Love
When it all started like a smile in the skies.
It felt like it was meant to be, like gentle thunder,
And tears of joy filling happy startled eyes.
I remember you standing just outside the room
And smiling through the stupid glassy door,
Me crossing the whole city just to see you
And so you did, for only 30 minutes more.
Two people deep in love, but both of us so stupidly alone
Sitting lonely so far away from each other and crying silently
For love we had, still have, did nothing wrong,
But let it go, and never gave a chance to see it fly.
Did we betray love? You—by declining to move and decide?
I—by declining to stay satisfied with just a portion of you?
I think we did, we sacrificed our love. You—by sacrificing yourself,
I—by declining to sacrifice my chance to live and happiness.
Yes, you told me from the start that you were happy where you were,
I kept on asking though, if so, what you were doing here with me.
And look now what happened, you say you’re so unhappy,
And look at me, I am destroyed and crawling on my knees.
It felt like we were born to be together, so much alike and having so much fun,
To live and feel—that was the desire, look where it got us, nothing here is real.
The joy was gone, and we were trapped between our craving for each other
And duty call—for you, and pride and stupid dignity—for me.
The beauty of you that I adore so much, and the boldness of me—
So many believed we were together just by the looks of ours.
But did we really had a chance or was it just a game from the very start
That turned into damnation and nothing, nothing could be changed?
Let’s leave it then at that—we didn’t stand a chance. It was a lie
That we could grow into something so much bigger, that none of us
Had even courage to spell out. This wasn’t meant for us, it takes much more
Than we could give to move it to fulfilment, to move it to the edge.
Two people deep in love, but both of us so stupidly alone
Sitting lonely so far away from each other and crying silently
For love we had, still have, did nothing wrong,
But let it go, and never gave a chance to see it grow.
Did we betray love? You—by declining to move and decide?
I—by declining to stay satisfied with just a portion of you?
I think we did, we sacrificed our love. You—by sacrificing yourself,
I—by declining to sacrifice my chance to live and happiness.
We sacrificed our love, we sacrificed our love, we did, oh yes we did.
