They were sitting right there in the middle of the house talking and laughing amongst themselves about something unimportant. She was smiling. She was smiling because she was feeling good and happy. The light from the lamps shone in every corner of the room. There was no place for shadows to dwell. Light filled the room.
Suddenly the window opened, and a cold wind came rushing into the room. She stood up slowly, went over to the window and peered out. The house was surrounded by darkness, and the rain was hammering down.
She closed the window with some shivering in her body and turned away. She smiled at him. He smiled back.
