society's destroying us
slowly piece by piece
with every word that we held back
with every stolen kiss
we steal what others get for free
and somehow still feel guilt
we carve ourselves to fit the mold
with knives stuck to the hilt
we learn to live inside our heads
and dream with eyes wide shut
converting pain to oxygen
with every single cut
we've tasted blood inside our mouths
oh one too many times
unjustly brutal punishment
for our supposed crimes
we learn to love, and grieve, and hate
and not to feel at all
as others keep on moving up
so deeper down we fall
way deeper down the rabbit hole
where we may find some peace
where we won't have to play pretend
or steal a single kiss
