If might my childhood come back...
If might my childhood come back,
those better days wouldn't go to rack.
And ever woulndn't my hope in vain:
E'en though the clouds did shadow summer day.
Still wouldn't my eyes look at the sorrows,
scarce some trouble would pain tomorrow.
The thunderstorm break out in sight:
it would be pored with rain aside.
E'en though the children's trust in the world
the stars beyond the sky did hold, -
still would a child smile tears away
and Mother Mary would come to stay.
And might I sing for joy of good,
remembrance all of my childhood.
