While reading four translations of a poem,
I picked the one that sounded as best.
It was minimalistic, yet heroic;
Unknown author stirred my interest.
I found his name and read of his achievements:
As one of those Victorian polymaths,
He was a prolific writer and believer
Among so many ordinary giants.
The country that for centuries produced
These writers, warriors, and faithful Robin Hoods
Cannot be depricated and reduced
To primitive consumption of the goods.
Here all the talents find their own niches,
The country makes one proud to be British!
