The sidelin'd trees form tunnels over path,
They bend and merge in overgrowing structures.
This is the view - familiar, simple, rough -
Which I attempt to understand and capture.
I see the same formation of the trees
In ceilings of cathedrals and chapels:
Its origin inevitably baffles.
Some paths to God that're cast in stone,
With stringent perpendicular arrangements,
Reflect our blooming nature and bestow
The beauty of its forests, fields and hedges.
That's how the faith and continental nature
Created European architecture.
